About the Davis'
Ashley Davis teaches first grade at Sunset Elementary, a Title One school located in Sunset, Utah. She received a Bachelors of Science in Child Development from Weber State University and two Masters degrees from Western Governors University: Masters of Arts in Teaching (Elementary Education) and a Masters of Science in Curriculum and Instruction. She believes that students maximize their learning potential when they have opportunities to see themselves exceed their own expectations. She accomplishes this goal through her Zeno Word Warrior and Reading Speed Racer initiatives. During the last two school years, her students have demonstrated the exceptional student growth on the Dibels test, outpacing expected performance for her school demographics. In addition to working as a classroom teacher, Davis uses her expertise to provide professional learning for teachers on Comprehensive Mathematics Instruction.
8th Grade Math
Kelland Davis teaches eighth grade mathematics at North Davis Junior High, a Title One school located in Clearfield, Utah. He received a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics and a Masters of Education in Learning and Technology from Western Governors University. In 2014, he was awarded as Technology Teacher of the Year by Davis School District. He believes that student interaction is integral to maximizing learning and providing a safe, engaging learning environment. During the last two school years, his students have demonstrated the highest student growth in his school district, achieving median student growth at the 91stpercentile. In addition to working as a classroom teacher, Davis uses his expertise to provide professional learning for teachers in several school districts and to support improvement status schools throughout the State of Utah. He is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
